Local stock prices firmed up on Thursday, the last trading day before Christmas, as window-dressing activities ahead of the long holiday break fueled a Santa Claus rally.
The main-share Philippine Stock Exchange index added 52.35 points or 1.27 percent to 4,166.04. The index gained for five straight days before the long Christmas weekend.
For the whole week, the index has risen by 107.73 points or 2.6 percent.
The gains on Thursday were led by the financial index, which rose by 1.65 percent as investors took heart from a rally in banking stocks that boosted trading on Wall Street overnight.
All counters were up, with holding firms, property and mining/oil counters likewise gaining over 1 percent.
