Six years later, with a market cap over $11.3 billion, the stock trading over $180 a share, and Jazz being viewed as one of the hottest Big Pharma targets of acquisition, it is easy to say they made the right decision. â€œSure, itâ€™s a great story now. But at the time we didnâ€™t know it would work,â€ Cozadd admits.

After such an experience, you would expect him to point to cash flow management as being the critical component of the Jazz success story. But instead, itâ€™s the companyâ€™s culture that he regards as the linchpin, and surprisingly, that emphasis on a strong corporate culture was in the plans from the companyâ€™s genesis.

Culture First; Products Second
Most companies create their organizational culture well after developing their first product. Cozadd and his cofounders took the opposite approach. In fact, the company did not even have a product or specific R&D program when it was launched in 2003. Sure, Cozadd had some ideas of what the company might want to work on, but his primary focus was to build a team capable of creating a strong corporate culture. That meant choosing partners who were like-minded regarding the value of a corporate culture. And since Cozadd had learned the importance of culture during his time at ALZA Corp. According to Cozadd, creating a company culture isnâ€™t a simple exercise of asking the question, â€œWhat kind of culture do you want to have?â€ and then coming up with a list of principles and values. â€œItâ€™s how you define those values. Itâ€™s really about how you want to treat people,â€ he says. Therefore, the management team had a daylong meeting to talk about values and what culture was going to mean to them. They discussed terms such as collaboration and what that would mean inside the organization and with external entities such as regulators, payors, and patient advocacy groups. They talked about integrity (â€œIf you make a commitment to somebody either inside or outside the organization, you mean it.â€) and the importance of transparent communication. Additional meetings were called to discuss how they would recruit people, the specific attributes they were looking for in a candidate, and how they would communicate the company culture throughout the hiring process.

â€œIs the culture what I say it is?â€ Thatâ€™s the question Bruce Cozadd, cofounder, chairman, and CEO of Jazz Pharmaceuticals, says you have to keep asking yourself as an executive. Cozadd does two things to try to stay on top of Jazzâ€™s corporate culture. â€œFirst, I spend a lot of time with new employees,â€ he shares. â€œI invite new employees in for an hour-long breakfast meeting that is relatively unscripted and includes small, cross-functional groups.â€ He says itâ€™s important to meet with new employees specifically because their experience of the companyâ€™s culture is, by definition, whatever the culture is today. â€œIf I ask a tenured employee to describe the Jazz company culture, they may give me an answer formed by something that happened to them three years ago,â€ he explains. â€œNew employees arenâ€™t reflecting back to the past to define your companyâ€™s culture. What they are telling you is what they think the culture is like today.â€

The other thing Cozadd does to keep tabs on the Jazz corporate culture is a yearly, all-employee, anonymous survey, which includes questions about culture. The company often gets a 90+ percent participation rate with the survey. Employee comments from last yearâ€™s survey consisted of 57 pages. â€œI read every comment,â€ Cozadd says. But conducting a survey and reading comments is just the start of the process. â€œIâ€™m very transparent about reflecting back to the organization as to what I heard and how it compares to previous years,â€ he attests. Because of employee turnover, Cozadd realizes survey results and comments wonâ€™t be a perfect match from year to year. However, he feels it is still a good tool to provide you with key trends. â€œI think being willing to solicit honest feedback in an anonymous forum is also helpful to staying on top of your companyâ€™s culture.â€

mi abot ug 22 cents. os-os ug balik to 20 cents. unja mi sirit ug saka. mi abot ug 30 cents. gi dali dali naho ug baligja. wa mahalin kay mi os-os na pod ang presyo. i had to keep adjusting lowering my sell price. na halin ra jud at 23 cents.

A Little Story

The businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The businessman complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied only a little while.

The businessman then asked why he didn't stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos; I have a full and busy life, seÃ±or."

The businessman scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and I could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats; eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the processor and eventually open your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City where you would run your expanding enterprise."

The Mexican fisherman asked, "But seÃ±or, how long will this all take?" To which the businessman replied, "15-20 years." "But what then, seÃ±or?" The businessman laughed and said, "That's the best part! When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You would make millions." "Millions, seÃ±or? Then what?" The businessman said, "Then you would retire. i just trade 2 or 3 times a week now. and there are times i do not trade at all during the week.

Ang Microsoft medyo bata pa pod. 29 yrs. old. Mga karaan nga companies , mo last ug more than a century. The Coca Cola Company KO was founded in 1886.

Swerte lang nga naka ponit ko sa JAZZ. Nag open ang ijang share price at $17.50 on June 1, 2007. Unja nag anam ug os-os. Kay lagi sigi pa man sila ug imbento sa ilang mga medisina. Pharmaceutical company man ni sija. Syempre daku jud kaajo ug gasto . Nag anam ug kahilis ang capital. Paglabay sa tuig, gikan sa 17.50 per share, nahimong 16, nahimong 15. Nag sigi ug padong sa ubos. on March 3, 2008, it went down to 12.10. In the middle of March 2008, nag single digit na sija. On March 17, 2008 the share price opened at 9.70. Pagka udto misaka to 10.70. Pagka hapon , went down to 9.34.

the lesson to be learned is that we should not get greedy. be contented w/ small consistent gains. that's the way to be happy and gay in the penny stock market
