Official classification for Maribojoc Bay Requested
« on: May 31, 2009, 06:33:40 PM »
The MACOTAPADA IFARMC passed a resolution requesting the Department of Environment and Natural Resource to come up with an official classification for Maribojoc Bay, during its 9th Congress held on May 25-26.

The move came after the failure of the DENR to release the bay’s official water classification five years ago.

Classifying the bay’s waters will determine the present water quality and the present most beneficial use or the intended most beneficial use in the next 10 to 20 years.

The Official classification will serve as the basis in verifying the extent of waste water from commercial, industrial and from other sources be treated so that the latter will comply with the effluent standards based on the Department of Administrative Order 35.

MACOTAPADA IFARMC Chair Eduardo Macalandag said the water classification will guide the component local government units on the required degree of protection in order to balance the environment and development in the bay areas.

In his speech during the congress, Maribojoc Mayor Leoncio Evasco Jr. pointed out that the Maribojoc Bay Resource Management Board is also looking at ways to strengthen unified coastal law enforcement in order to combat illegal fishing activities in Maribojoc bay.

Rodrigo Jiz, National FARMC representative, who was the guest speaker during the congress inspired the management council by supporting their coastal resource management advocacies at the regional and national levels.

The National Anti-Poverty Commission, through NAPC Artesanal Fisherfolk Council member Servando Toledo, also turned-over one unit of Global Positioning System to the council.

Part of the activity was the awarding of the 21 Baywide Deputy Fishwarden appointed by the Regional Director Andres Bojos of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Region 7.

The 9th Congress, inspired by the theme, “MACOTAPADA IFARMC: Moving Ahead!” was sponsored by PROCESS-Bohol, Incorporated and the Maribojoc Bay Resource Management Board through the Maribojoc Bay Executive Management Office (MBEMO). (Jovenal G. Edquilag, MBEMO executive director)

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
