The concern of thousands of Maribojocanons in the United States and Canada finally convinced Mayor Leoncio Evasco, Jr. to grace the one-day convention yesterday in Las Vegas, Nevada.          

"At first, I opted to discontinue my travel because of the pressing problems and concerns facing the municipality this time," he said.

But the US- based Maribojocanons insisted on his attendance to the convention and finally convinced the mayor to give in to his townmates' pleadings on condition that the splintered group would reunite the original aggrupation and that a united organization be forged.

Before proceeding to the trip, Evasco explained the transparency of his trip, during the despedida party that the ABC sponsored for the outgoing barangay officials whose terms expire on November 30.

Evasco was the guest speaker during the party which gave him a venue to explain to the town officials that not a single centavo will come from the municipal coffers, since it is the Maribojocanons in the US and Canado who shouldered the travel expenses of the mayor's party which included his executive chief of staff Oscar Francisco Valles, and businessman Paul Campos Gelig, Maribojoc's consultant on livelihood and economic enterprises.

He pointed out that whatever financial assistance the town will get from the US and Canada-based Maribojocanons, will be in the form of checks addressed to the Municipality of Maribojoc and will go directly to the Municipal Treasurer's Office.

"This is in the spirit of transparency," according to the mayor.
