MANILA, Philippines – Contrary to what most people think, the act of recording sex videos is not a sign of mental illness, according to a relationship expert.
In an interview on the ABS-CBN morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda†on Wednesday, Dr. Margie Holmes said recording a sex video is a decision and can be controlled.
“I think kailangan i-klaro natin na ‘di ito sakit. Maraming nagsasabi na sakit ito pero hindi, kasi you can help it. Kasi ‘pag sakit ito, hindi mo mapigil ang sarili mo eh, gagawin mo nang gagawin,†Holmes explained.
She said, however, that this does not make the act less harmful.
“Hindi ito sakit pero napakasama,†she said, adding, “Hindi mo iniisip ang mangyayari sa babaeng nilalagay mo sa video. Hindi mo iniisip ‘yung magulang niya, magulang mo, sarili mo lang lagi.â€
So why do couples record their sexual acts?
According to Holmes, it is usually the men who bring this up. She said they tend to do it as they look for a “remembrance†of their intimate moments, to feel that they are “machoâ€, or out of curiosity.
“Kadalasan ang lalaki ang humihiling. Siguro they feel they have nothing to lose,†Holmes said as their partners, more often than not, end up getting pregnant and humiliated after the video is leaked online.
Girls, on the other hand, are often carried away by their emotions and “love†for their partners.
“Ang mga babae, bakit sila pumapayag? Una, in love sila eh. ‘Yun ‘yun eh. At hindi ko ine-encourage ito, kasi kahit in love ka, nag-iisip ka pa rin,†Holmes said. “At saka ‘yung idea noon na ‘kung mahal mo ako, gagawin mo ito, magse-sex tayo o ise-sex video mo ako.â€
Holmes advised couples to get to know each other first and be careful not to get carried away by their emotions as they may regret their actions later.
“Protektahan ang sarili,†she said. “Sa babae ‘yun at sa lalaki.â€
Last week, the chief of the Public Attorney’s Office gave the same advice to couples following the arrest of a Manila City Hall employee who was accused of uploading a photo of himself and his former girlfriend having sex.
“Kaya ang aming advice, huwag na ninyong i-document ‘yan. Kumuha na lang kayo ng picture na may damit kaysa naman ‘yung private affair. Sa inyo na lang ‘yun, huwag na ninyong i-document,†PAO chief Atty. Persida Rueda-Acosta said.
Those who document their sexual activities and make them public may face imprisonment and a fine for violating Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Voyeurism Law.
