Dating someone of a different race/ethnicity
« on: July 16, 2007, 12:58:04 PM »
Okay..

So right now I'm kinda seeing a girl who happens to be of a different race/ethnicity. I know that there are people out there that are into dating people who are Asian, puti, itoom, etc. In fact many of the members here are probably in the same situation as myself.

Naturally, I'm attracted to Filipiniana looking women--you know women who are very Filipina in facial phenotype--as im not really interested in women who are 'mestizo' looking or 'mestizong intsik' looking. It was never my 'thing' back in high school as well as in my early college years. But ya, since taking medical biochemistry this summer, I got to know a friend of mine really well. And when I mean 'get to know' I think ive fallen head over heals for her--well it was nothing serious at first--i guess more of a crush in the way she prepared sulfanimide and the way she joked around when we were carbonating our 1.5 M hydocholoric acids. So ya--its been like almost 4 weeks now and I think i really like this girl and am thinking about asking her out---but the only thing that is holding me back is the race/ethnicity factor.

Im a pretty conservative guy, and most of my friends are Filipinos who date Filipinos or date other asians. And I will admit that in the past I had issues with white guys who dated Filipinas--ionno i guess me and my friends got jealous or were ethnocentric---I admit that. And I guess I grew out of that phase in life. This is why this situation is new to me because the girl that I really like happens to be puti. I mean, I remember swearing to myself once about never dating anyone that wasn't Filipina--

++++++++

But ya, any of you guys ever placed in this kind of situation? Yes No? Care to tell your story---??

I think it (race/ethnicity) shouldn't matter.  Who among us can lay claim to racial and cultural purity?  White, brown, or black it's just skin color.  I think the question you should be asking yourself is "Can you see yourself living and raising a family with her?"

as long as you both are comfortable with eachothers background. Love doesn't decide color, race, etc but how you feel about one another.

I agree, can you see your future with her? (ask that too)

Yes, Iv'e had a problem with that before.
It was good friend, and we talked on the phone.
but my friends and family teased me about it because we were close.
I had nothing against his ethnicity but my family did because
he was african american.

But hey, If you really love someone. Why should the outside count?
