Concerned member-consumers of the Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco) and the water districts in this city and the adjoining town of Daraga are seeking transparency from their officials through the help of the Albay Consumers Association (Alconas).
Inspired by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s sincere appreciation of communications during her recent visits here, participatory and more democratic means of contributing to the decision making, the consumers association implored to be heard in coming up with measures to mitigate the spiraling cost of electricity and water here.
Alconas, being represented by its diligent spokesman Rafael Villar, an engineer by profession, has sought audiences from authorities by conducting (as proposed) public hearings regarding pressing woes on water and electricity in the province.
Villar told this writer that his group has sought a public hearing on updating issues and concerns of today’s services being rendered by public utilities operating in Albay province namely: Aleco and the Legazpi City Water District (LCWD).
But local chief executives and their respective legislative bodies have yet to act on the matter while communications are on their way from the local level and even consistently seeking the comments or support from the office of President Arroyo.
