Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Jesus Verzosa threw his support to the distribution of shotguns by the Pangasinan provincial government to its barangay captains numbering some 1,330, "so long as there is no violation of the firearms law".
Verzosa was interviewed by newsmen when he came over Friday to preside over the laying of cornerstone and the groundbreaking of a proposed state-of-the-art headquarters of the Dagupan Police.
He said if any of the barangay captains issued with the firearms violate the firearms law, that is only the time that the police will intervene.
Verzosa was accompanied to Dagupan by Police Regional Director Luizo Ticman and Police Provincial Director Percival Barba, after being honored by the Pangasinan Provincial government led by Governor Amado Espino Jr. in Lingayen.
He came along with many of the police generals who are natives of Pangasinan, including Chief Supt. Roberto Rosales, director of the Manila Police District, who is an adopted son of Dagupan, having been chief of police of Dagupan for two times, at whose administration the Dagupan Police was adjudged as the best city police station nationwide three times.
