Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama asked the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to be vigilant, especially during Holy Week.
The mayor said he cannot allow the lack of security plan and lack of preparation of the police to result in any untoward incident in the city, particularly robbery.
He also appealed to business establishments such as banks, gas stations, foreign exchange shops, pawnshops, cellular phone shops, among others, to invest in security.
Six robbers recently held up eight employees of M. Lhuiller Pawnshop at gunpoint near the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and took jewelry they were transporting from Mindanao to their headquarters in Cebu City.
Laptop units, a cell phone and P10,000 cash were also taken from the employees, mostly managers of the pawnshop chain, who just arrived from the cities of Ozamis and Cagayan de Oro.
â€Security is a very important matter that you must invest in. There’s a saying no one will steal if you don’t give them the opportunity,†Rama said.
The mayor also asked his staff to coordinate with the Parish Security Group to beef up security in churches during the Holy Week. (PNA)
