Residents of Bansalan town in this province were recipient of a P1-million fund from the Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP) as start up capital for livelihood and construction of potable water system.
Bansalan Mayor Edwin Reyes said MRDP forged partnership with Bansalan municipality for a program that will provide small infrastructure and livelihood.
Reyes said the total fund support is about P2.5 million coming from the MRDP-Community Fund for Agricultural Development (CFAD) to include cash equity from the local government unit.
The program is prioritizing provisions of potable water supply to promote rural productivity as well as eliminate water borne diseases, he said.
On the other hand, MRDP program director Rogelio Chio said access to safe drinking water is a prerequisite to poverty alleviation as it promotes good health.
He said included in the implementation MRDP projects in the municipality are abaca and native chicken production.
He said abaca production will be for the cooperative members with indigenous tribe in barangay Sibayan while barangay Poblacion Dos will go into native production with the growing demand for egg and poultry meat in the locality. - PNA
