Police working to identify gunmen in the slaying of a government doctor in Lanao

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, March 3 (PNA) -- The provincial police in Lanao Del Norte has started to collate evidence that could lead to the possible identity of the suspects in the shooting to death of a municipal doctor in Lanao Del Norte last Wednesday, a senior police official said Friday.

In an interview with the local media, P/Sr. Supt. Faro Antonio Olaguera, provincial police director in Lanao Del Norte, said that unidentified gunmen shot dead Dr. Dreyfuss Perlas, 30, the municipal health officer of Sapad in Kapatagan, Lanao Del Norte Wednesday night.

“We have gathered evidence, including Perlas’ mobile phone, which we are submitting to the [Philippine National Police’s] Anti-cyber Crime Group,” Olaguera said.

He said that the investigation would focus on the report that Perlas had a heated argument with a patient or relative of a patient in the Bontilao Country Hospital in Barangay Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte.

According to the police report, Perlas was driving a motorcycle and was on his way to his residence in Maranding, Lanao Del Norte when a riding tandem on a motorcycle drove beside and shot the victim at close range.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered a single .45 caliber cartridge from the crime scene, Olaguera said.

Olaguera said that the police investigators also did a background check on Perlas family, but it came up empty, so now they are looking into the Bontilao hospital incident as the most possible motive for the shooting.

He said that the police investigators are now conducting a background investigation of the names of the patients or relatives with whom Perlas reportedly had an altercation prior to the shooting incident. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
