Police arrest Cotabato City village chair included in President Duterte's drug list
COTABATO CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- Anti-narcotics operatives in Region 12 arrested Wednesday a village official included in the list of drug personalities of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Supt. Maximo Sebastian, head of Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (RAIDSOTF), said his team served five search warrants against Village chairperson Kumbol Mamalangkay of Barangay Rosary Heights 10.
"He is among the local officials included in the list of President Duterte," Sebastian told reporters.
Police were armed with search warrants issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Alexandrex Betoya for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms.
The raiding team found an unlicensed cal. 45 pistol and ammunition in Mamalangkay's home in Purok Masagana, Barangay Rosary Heights 10.
No illegal drugs were found in the official's home, Sebastian added. But he maintained the information relayed to police that Mamalangkay was classified as illegal drug protector.
Also arrested was Mamalangkay's son who is a village councilman. Seized from him was an unlicensed handgun.
Sebastian said Mamalangkay had been placed under surveillance for at least three months by police operatives.
Two other homes of suspected illegal drug personalities in Cotabato City have been raided by the subject of warrants were no longer around.
Speaking to reporters, Mamalangkay said the raid could be part of retaliation against him due to his active and aggressive anti-drug campaign in his barangay.
Sebastian said anti-drug operations in the region will continue.
Region 12, also known as SOCCSKSARGEN, is composed of the provinces of South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and the cities of Cotabato, Kidapawan, Koronadal and Gen. Santos. (PNA)
