Palawan cops to continue ‘Oplan Tokhang’ vs illegal narcotics in 2017

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Jan. 3 (PNA) -- The Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPO) Tuesday said it now has over 4,000 individuals, who were arrested and who voluntary surrendered due to the stringent implementation of the national government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign "Oplan Tokhang".
Police Inspector Ric Ramos, spokesperson of the PPO, said they are still “accounting exact figures†but most in the number were users, who voluntarily sought their help and counseling.
Since July when the PPO implemented the Oplan, the PPO spokesperson stated they made significant triumphs against illegal drugs in the whole province, and will be continuing it with the conduct of “Oplan Takhang.â€
“For those who are not familiar, Oplan Takhang is part of the campaign against illegal drugs, and what it does is to talk to the individuals we suspect as drug pushers; and tell them what peddling illegal drugs would do not only to a person but to the community,†he said.
This 2017, Ramos said there will be more partnerships with local government units (LGUs), the Palawan Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), and barangay leaders for the conduct of “legitimate operations†against drugs and other crimes.
“You will see more of us 24/7 in the streets, in the barangays, in municipalities; we will make sure the Palaweño people can rely on us that we will follow the rule of law to fight drugs and crimes,†Ramos said.
He added that the police office in Palawan is always open to welcome those who will voluntary surrender because of drugs.
Ramos also thanked the Palaweño people for the safe and secure celebration of the New Year. (PNA)
