Palawan Second District Rep. Dennis Socrates has filed a measure in the House of Representatives, seeking to reclassify timberlands covering nine barangays in the municipality of Aborlan, Palawan into alienable and disposable lands.
House Bill 4792, co-authored by Representatives Antonio C. Alvarez of the 1st District and Ponciano D. Payuyo of the APEC Party List, wants to reclassify a total of 5,638 hectares of timberland in the southern town of Aborlan. These are located in Barangays Cabigaan, Magbabadil, Barake, Iraan, Sagpangan, Isaub, San Juan, Apurawan and Culandanum.
Socrates said these timberland areas should have been reclassified as alienable and disposable lands a long time ago because there are large portions now being occupied by residents, who use them as farmlands and for other purposes. Other portions, he added, can also be utilized as settlement areas for residents who do not own lands.
“Like the municipal government officials of Aborlan, I believe that when the measure becomes a law, it can help the town’s economy. Lands can be opened to become more productive for agriculture and commerce. Investors will also not have second thoughts putting in capitals and establish businesses in Aborlan because lands can have titles,†Socrates explained.
The lawmaker added HB 4792 was filed in response to Resolution 17, Series of 2011, passed by the Sangguniang Bayan of Aborlan following an appeal from the Pilgrim Society of Mary and Lay Associates (PSM), Inc. and other sectors. source: PNA
