Policemen have arrested a woman suspected of illegally recruiting and duping more than a hundred applicants for overseas work in a placement outfit only about 30 meters away from the police precinct of Kabacan, North Cotabato.
The suspect, Corazon Andaya, told police investigators she works for a certain Zenaida Juan of Quezon City.
Police Inspector Edwin Lacostales, an officer of the Criminal Investigation Group in North Cotabato, said corresponding cases of illegal recruitment and estafa have also been filed against Juan who, according to Andaya, operates the recruitment agency.
According to Lacostales, Andaya did not resist arrest when policemen who acted as applicants for overseas employment presented to her the warrant inside her office.
Lacostales said Andaya was with her office secretary who accepts applicants at the time of the arrest Monday morning.
The secretary was set free since she was not included in the arrest warrant.
Lacostales said that Juan, Andaya’s supposed cohort and financier, resides at Unit 117B at the third floor of Saint Andrew Building at Quirino Highway in Lagro, Quezon City.
Interviewed by reporters, Andaya said she only accepts, on Juan’s behalf, application papers of aspirants for job placement in the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Spain, Italy and other member-states in the European Union.
Lacostales said the police are to commit Andaya to Regional Trial Court Branch 22 Judge Laureano Alzate who issued the warrant for her arrest. (PNA)
