As the yuletide season is fast approaching, the city government has stepped up its drive against the total ban on firecrackers.
The campaign against the firecrackers is in accordance with the city ordinance no. 63 which has been implemented since 2008.
Through public announcements, the anti-firecracker campaign has started with the use of barkers, print, radio and television, including local newspaper Balitang Ozisero, Subic Bay News, cable television SBC TV22, dwGO AM and dwOK FM.
Posting of campaign posters and tarpaulins with the help of City Public Affairs Office (PAO) in different places in the city is also being implemented to continuously remind Olongapeños of the hazards and damages on the use of firecrackers against lives and properties.
Two years ago, in the midst of a fiesta parade, firecrackers exploded along the city’s public market that brought about million of pesos in damages and major injuries to some bystanders.
Mayor James “Bong†Gordon also cautioned on the use of Christmas lights to avoid accident and fire occurrences.
