City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) head Lorelie Suelo recommended declaring under a state of calamity 22 flashflood-ravaged villages in Roxas City, capital of Capiz province.
She noted most of these villages are in coastal and fishpond areas as well as in locations with flood-affected agricultural land.
The Roxas City social welfare officer urged the city government to buy 30 additional sacks of rice, 30 cartoons of noodles and 20 cartoons of sardines all for distribution to the affected families.
These families are housed at present in evacuation centers of different villages.
Earlier, the social welfare office in that city distributed 20 sacks of rice, 10 boxes of sardines and 30 boxes of noodles to some 2,710 affected families there.
Based on the monitoring report from Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Capiz, the number of families in various evacuation centers lessened already.
PDRRMC noted data from Pontevedra town show only 75 of the total 155 displaced families are left in the evacuation centers. - pna
