Zamboanga City (29 June 2005) -- Monsignor Crisanto Dela Cruz, prominent and influential religious leader in Zamboanga City congratulated President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for her courage in accepting her imprudence in front of the entire nation.

In an interview with PIA, Monsignor dela Cruz praised the President saying that she has exemplified the character of being a good leader by accepting her faults. "I think it is a sign of a good leader when you see that you are mistaken and you say you're sorry. Nobody is perfect and I hope that this would be an opportunity for her to start a new beginning and be more determined to conduct reforms especially in the area of corruption and purging of the COMELEC," Msgr. Dela Cruz said.

In a statement released to the media, Monsignor dela Cruz appealed to the public for sobriety and for healing of wounds brought about by political and personal interest. "Our leaders should think of the common good and not their personal interest. Let the law take due force and let our leaders set aside their personal gain. Both the administration and the opposition should reflect on how to move forward together. What we need is a healthy opposition," Monsignor Dela Cruz stressed.

He also appealed specifically to Exec. Sec. Eduardo Ermita to help the President by drawing the people to her rather than driving them away. Msgr. Dela Cruz is talking of the recent order of Sec. Ermita of the transfer of Air Transportation Office IX to Pagadian City. "Sec. Ermita should not only think of the good of Dipolog and Pagadian just because they won there. The order has only caused more confusion to the people. We don't have money to finance the transfer of the regional offices to Pagadian."

Monsignor dela Cruz also called for the people to respect all our duly constituted authorities. He emphasized that the government is doing its best to give what is due to the people. "I would like to believe that the government is moving forward but not as fast as it should be. This is because of the many political distractions," Msgr. Dela Cruz said.

Monsignor dela Cruz appealed to our leaders and the people to put our acts together. He said that these could be achieved if only we are determined. "There should be meeting of minds between the administration and the opposition for the good of our country, and it is possible through utmost respect, dialogue, more prayer and sacrifice. We hope that our country would survive this crisis," Monsignor dela Cruz ended. (PIA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
