LTO allots P45M for construction of new Region 12 office building

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, March 2 (PNA) -- The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has allocated around P45 million for the construction of its new Region 12 field office building in nearby Koronadal City.

Macario Gonzaga, LTO-12 regional director, said Thursday the initial preparations are underway for the development of their permanent regional office in a one-hectare lot in Barangay Zone III.

"The project has already been approved for implementation by our central office and we're expecting the release of the budget in the coming weeks," he said in an interview.

Gonzaga said South Cotabato second district Rep. Ferdinand Hernandez, who donated the project site, lobbied for its funding and implementation starting this year.

He said the agency earlier forged a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Rep. Hernandez for the donation of the lot.

The MOA was signed by LTO chief, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, and Undersecretary Anneli Lontoc, DOTr's officer-in-charge for land and infrastructure.

Gonzaga said they adopted the project as among their top priorities to further improve their operations and service delivery.

The move will allow the agency to cater to more clients and offer additional services to the public, he said.

“It will further bring our services nearer and more accessible to people in the region," the official said.

LTO-12 presently leases a house that was converted into an office building along Mabini Street in Barangay Zone IV, Koronadal City.

The site of its upcoming regional office building is presently used as impounding area for apprehended motor vehicles.

Koronadal City is the administrative seat and center of Region 12 or Soccsksargen.

The region comprises the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and North Cotabato, and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong, Kidapawan and Cotabato. (PNA)
