The US$ 2.2 million grant of the Korean government for the construction of Dagupan’s Seafood Processing Plant will not come in the form of cash but in equipment and infrastructure.
This was clarified on Thursday by Dagupan City Agriculturist Emma Molina who said during the KBP (Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas) Forum here that construction of the project will definitely start on July 2.
Although the equipment for the plant will come from Korea, these must be compliant with Philippine specifications, she said, pointing out that a Korean contractor will build the project and complete it after 10 months.
The contractor won in a public bidding conducted by the Korean government in Seoul although a local contractor that will employ skilled workers from the community where the project is located, will still be needed.
Although the negotiation for the project took for sometime, Molina denied it is not delayed and it is well within target schedule approved by the City government, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
