By ELENA L. ABEN
Manila Bulletin

Armed men seized on Friday another foreign national in a remote village in the island province of Sulu, a stronghold of the Al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), according to the military.

Based on information released by the armed forces’ Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) public affairs officer, Lt. Steffani Cacho-Cimini, the latest victim was a Japanese national identified as Amer Katayama Mamaito.

Cimini said at least 10 armed men seized Mamaito at about 1:00 p.m. at Sitio Bas, Barangay Bangkilay in Pangutaran, Sulu.

The victim, who is about 70-years-old and is reportedly engaged in treasure hunting, is said to be residing in Sulu for almost five years now.

Ha, ha. O ang hunter nahimong hunted. It's odd to be laughing at this now because I am presently in Zamboanga City. I just conducted my business within the hotel premises for the whole day kay murag kulba gyud mogawas-gawas. Surprisingly, there are so many foreigners today in the hotel. This mustn't be such a scary place.

The last time I was in Zamboanga City was a few years ago. I was there a full three days, and moved around and saw and felt some. Much cheaper even than Cebu is what I remember.

Barato bitaw kaayo dire Bay Hubs. Dinner of blue marlin and mushroom with oyster sauce, plus an exotic concoction of fruit shake, costs half the dinner I had at this fancy Nivel Hills resto in Cebu two nights ago--and tastes twice as delicious and fresh. I'm enjoying rediscovering our islands on the guise of business.

The guise of business provides an ample enough veil for the eager face of pleasure, Bay Ben. While at it, you might as well pick up a few items for the wife, too...
