At least 132 youth from the 28 towns of Iloilo province received Monday afternoon their stipend under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Expanded Government Internship Program (EGIP).
Rebecca Geamala, who represented DSWD Regional Dir. Minda Brigoli in the distribution of the stipends, the EGIP scholars received P14,404 each for the 52 working days they rendered or a total amount of P1.9 million.
The EGIP is one of the components of the Kabataan 2000 program of the government that was expanded to include young people with disabilities (PWDs). It was developed to provide opportunity for out-of-school youth, in-school youth and PWDs hands-on experience of working in various government agencies.
“The EGIP gives a feeling to the youth on how it is to work in the government for we need people who will go into public service later on,†Geamala said.
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., who also delivered his message during the distribution at the New Iloilo Capitol lobby, said that the government is really striving to give the young people through the program skills and the needed opportunity to improve their lives.
