The Bureau of Soil and Water Management (BSWM) here has already finished 20 cloud seeding sorties in Iloilo as part of its El Niño mitigation program.
Le Jayme Jalbuena of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) said the BSMW has been doing its cloud seeding operations since May 3. Another flight is on schedule by next week.
Jalbuena said seeding operations were done in towns of Alimodian, Janiuay and Lambunao and areas near the Maasin watershed.
He said some seeded clouds could not still reach the Maasin watershed as the cloud formations tend to dissipate near mountains. This is a natural weather phenomenon among clouds.
Both BSWM and MIWD are partner agencies of the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the cloud seeding operations in the region.
In an interview, DA regional director Larry P. Nacionales said the government has allotted around P2 million for the cloud seeding in Western Visayas. - PNA
