The
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Wednesday culminated the observance of the Consumer Welfare Protection Month by destroying
P3.35 million worth of substandard products confiscated for the period 2008-2011.
DTI provincial director Wilhelm Malones said the substandard products were confiscated from 57 establishments operating in the city and province of
Iloilo for violating Republic Act 4109 or the Product Standards Law.
Malones said that these were covered by mandatory standards but were sold in establishments devoid of the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) mark for imported products or Product Standard (PS) sticker for locally manufactured.
P1 million fine was also imposed on erring establishments.
