The city government has taken cognizance of the mushrooming Korean English tutorial schools here operating without the necessary permits either from the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) and the city government.
Iloilo Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is meeting with the TESDA, city legal office and the licensing and permits division to consult on the proper procedure that should be followed as regard the operation of tutorial schools
He added that they will also be talking on the possible use of dummies by the Koreans.
The city was alarmed with the report from TESDA last month that only two of the 35 centers that offer English as Second Language (ESL) have permits, the Neo International Language Center, Inc. and SNS Fame Language Center.
TESDA provincial director Lorena Yunque, in previous interviews, said based on the memorandum of agreement entered into by the ESL Tour Program in the Philippines and TESDA.
The latter has to accredit centers offering ESL courses subject to the unified technical vocational education and training program registration and accreditation system
TESDA would like the city government to refrain from issuing permits for centers to operate if they could not present their accreditation. - PNA
