ILOILO CITY, Nov. 17 (PNA) -– The city government here will be asking the support of barangay leaders to respond to issues on trafficking of persons, most of whom are minors, recruited to work in red houses here.
Last month, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Task Force Anti-Prostitution and the 6th Regional Maritime Office (6RMO), in various occasions, were able to rescue and intercept some of the alleged trafficked victims from Cebu.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog hoped that those responses would discourage traffickers from bringing more victims in this city.
He stressed that what is needed is “vigilance to discourage traffickers†and the indictment of perpetrators.
“We will ask the cooperation and support of barangay officials because they know what is happening in their respective jurisdictions,†he said, adding that, since they have just gotten a new mandate from the people, then expectedly they are more aggressive.
Further, Mabilog will also be creating a task force that will solely look into the said concern.
The mayor added that CSWDO head Alfredo Villanueva has already come up with the draft of a proposed executive order creating the said task force. (PNA)
