Hotel opens in Kalibo in time for Ati-atihan Festival
KALIBO, Aklan, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- The Glowmoon Inn opened once again here in Kalibo in anticipation of the influx of guests attending the Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-atihan Festival.
Ramon Quimpo Jr., one of the owners of the Glowmoon Hotel, said that the building is considered a national heritage site. It is the birthplace of former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Victorino Mapa.
"It was named Glowmoon because it's a combination of our parents names Gloria and Ramon Sr.," said Quimpo.
Attending as guests are his brother Vice Governor Reynaldo Quimpo and other siblings.
The said inn was temporarily closed to the public last year as it underwent reconstruction and improvement. The inn is considered a strategic area because it's at the side of the St. John the Baptist Cathedral along Martelino Street, Kalibo.
Meanwhile, Kalibo Councilor Philip Kimpo bared that the Aklan Historical Society will be giving tribute to Mapa at the Aklan Museum on February 25.
"The young generation may not be familiar with the works of Mapa anymore so we wanted to give him due recognition," Kimpo said.
Mapa is considered as the second Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the first Filipino to hold the highest position in the judiciary. The first Supreme Court Chief Justice in the Philippines was an American.
Prior to his post, Mapa served as legal adviser of then president Emilio Aguinaldo. (PNA)
