Forty one people were injured after a grenade exploded in a covered court in Barangay Fatima in the Paquibato District of Davao City around 9:00 pm Saturday.
Five of the victims were critically injured and are currently being treated at the Panabo Polymedic Hospital and Southern Philippines Medical Center.
The victims were watching a circus show when the grenade exploded in the covered court, according to initial investigations.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Ronald dela Rosa said the perpetrators targeted the 69th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, which was near where the circus show was being held.
Dela Rosa said the target was clearly the Infantry Division soldiers and not the circus audience.
A bomb squad has been dispatched to conduct a post-blast investigation.
Meanwhile, officials of Barangay Fatima have asked that a temporary detachment be put in place for additional security, especially as the barangay is about to celebrate a fiesta. Report from DZMM.
