PGMA breaks silence; country needs to move on
by Sylvia C. Serfino
Catbalogan, Samar (29 June 2005) -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's admission of her role in the Gloria-Garci wire-tapped tape was a welcome gesture as it finally puts to rest a question that has been plaguing the entire Filipino nation.

This was the reaction of Mrs. Helen Hernandez, President of the Samar Baker's Association and past president of the Batanguenos Association of Samar.

Mrs. Hernandez said it was a very noble gesture on PGMA's part to swallow her pride, break her silence and accept before national television that what she had done was a "serious lapse of judgment".

"The President is just as human as everybody else, yet she had the courage to own up to her mistake," Hernadez said. In fairness to her, she didn't say anything incriminating in the tape. We should also have the courage to forgive her and move on, the Baker's President said. She, likewise stressed that changing horses in midstream is not the solution to the problems of the country today. She claimed that heeding the call for a snap election as suggested by defeated Presidential candidate Raul Roco or calling a tax boycott would only add to the financial burdens of the country and weaken the economy.

With the Presidential election just a stone's throw away, the Filipino people should instead help government push PGMA's economic agenda, Hernandez further added.

In a statement earlier issued by Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, he stressed that "maligning the leadership and trampling the economy will always be to the detriment of the people...... and a clear attemp to push back economic gains."

Moreover, he emphasized the President's call to move on and boost investor confidence through the economic reform agenda. (PIA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
