ANC – Thu, Jul 3, 2014

A third year high school student of Rizal High School in Pasig died after she fell down the stairs while posing for a selfie last Monday, June 30.

The 14-year-old girl was said to be near the stairs with a friend and in the middle of taking a selfie when she allegedly fell. It has been said that she had gotten dizzy.

According to the girl’s uncle, Arthuro de Leon, he got a call from the adviser of his niece Monday morning.

"Yung adviser, tumawag. Nahilo daw. Nasa ospital na daw, so medyo kampante pa ako kasi akala ko minor lang, itinawag. Pagdating namin sa ospital, sini-CPR na siya. Yung doctor sabi sa akin, yung bata dinala sa ospital dead on arrival (The adviser called me saying she got dizzy. They said she was already in the hospital so I got complacent because they say it's just minor [injury]. When we got to the hospital, they were already giving her CPR. The doctor told me that when the child was brought to the hospital, she was already dead on arrival)," De Leon said.

sad.  she was just having some teenage fun.  now i'm wondering why mobile phones are allowed in that school.  my kid does not take along her mobile to school.  mobiles are confiscated by school authorities, that's why.

mobile phones should not be allowed in high school campuses.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

reminds me of a scene some years ago in the school where our kid goes...

mobile phones were never allowed right from the beginning, even long before every tom, dick and harry held such phones.  those who do bring are supposed to surrender these at the information booth in the main lobby, where the students can get them back after classes in the afternoon as they leave the campus.  but student creativity knows no bounds.

some teachers noticed something was wrong with the way one student walked.  she was made to undergo a body search because, well, what if she was ill or something?  blazes.  it turned out that she smuggled a mobile phone inside the campus by placing it in her underwear, and it started to slip.  that student was the year's biggest story in the school.
