PENRO-NegOcc installs
free geocam mobile app for environmental law violationsBACOLOD CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in Negros Occidental launched on Wednesday the use of geocam mobile application for Android users.
PENRO-Negros Occidental head Andres Untal said the geocam will allow users to take photos of environmental law violations with coordinates and report these to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Photos can be emailed to
[email protected] or posted on the Facebook pages of PENRO-Negros Occidental, DENR-Negros Island Region, or PENRO Enforcement Section.
“We can take photos from ridge to reef and make community environmental law enforcement happen,†Untal said. “The coordinates will mainly help us determine whether the subject of the photo is within protected area, timberland, or titled property.â€
On Wednesday morning, the PENRO-Negros Occidental staff led by Untal conducted a lecture and installed the mobile app for users who visited their office in Barangay 39 here.
Untal said he is encouraging the Negrenses to participate because they have a very significant role in the protection and conservation of the environment.
They can use the geocam mobile app even without an internet connection, he added.
The initiative is being implemented by PENRO in collaboration with the Protected Area Superintendent of the Northern Negros Natural Park.(PNA)
