EIGHT ( ILLEGAL FISHERS APPREHENDED IN CAIBIRAN

Biliran Police Provincial Office, Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran:  Biliran Police Provincial Office is working to ensure a sustainable future for our seas by combating illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing all over the province.

As a result thereof, on April 14, 2021 at around 02:20 PM joint elements of PIU Biliran PPO, Caibiran MPS and Task Force Kalikasan conducted a seaborne patrol at the territorial seawater of Caibiran, Biliran which resulted to the arrest of Alexander Caballero y Abuda (owner and boat captain) of “F/B ALEBEL” and seven (7) crews namely: Rodulfo Perante, Jovel D Espinosa, Manuel Asis, Raul Lusada, Anthony Asis, Beanito Depaz and Aris Lagaras, all are residents of Brgy. Mayabay, Daram, Samar.

Said arrested persons were intercepted and accosted actually engaged in illegal fishing in Violation of Section 65 (Use of ring net method locally known as “Kubkuban”) of Caibiran Municipal Ordinance No. 131 series of 2009 (Caibiran Fishery Ordinance).

Among the items seized from arrested persons were the F/B ALEBEL with an estimated gross weight of more or less two (2) tons with an estimated value of Php 501,000.00 to include fishing paraphernalia’s and catch fish.

Subsequently, confiscated items were brought to the shoreline of Caibiran, Biliran while apprehended violators were brought to Caibiran MPS for documentation and proper disposition.

PCOL JOEL T SERRANO commends the operating troops for the success of the operation and further stated that the arrest of Caballero and cohorts will serve as a warning to all violators.

“Our Police Force will keep on protecting our marine resources and will intensify the conduct of police operation against violators despite pandemic,” says PCOL JOEL T SERRANO, Acting Provincial Director.
