Some 30 farmers and coffee growers attended the recent
First Coffee Field Day activity, in Sorsogon city.
Lorna Figueroa, Sorsogon City administrator, said the activity was conducted to convince farmers that there is money in coffee; update growers of the technologies and market opportunities of coffee; identify issues and concerns on coffee growing; encourage more farmers to venture into coffee production.
Figueroa said coffee has great potential since people will never stop drinking coffee and that increasing the area for production would mean additional jobs generated.
"We hope that Sorsogon would later be known as one of the top producers of coffee in the country," she said.
The First Coffee Field Day event was sponsored by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in partnership with Provincial Agriculture and Fishery Council (PARCF) and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sorsogon City.
Francisco Aranda, member of Para-café kan Sorsogon City Association, shared his experiences, practices and technologies adopted on coffee production.- PNA
