« on: November 17, 2010, 04:41:23 PM »
A 54-year-old woman was killed while eight others were injured when a powerful explosion rocked a clandestine fireworks factory in Barangay Marungko here Monday night.

In a report to Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Fernando Villanueva, Chief Inspector Arwin Tadeo, Angat police chief, identified the fatality as Linda Reyes, who was declared dead on arrival at the Norzagaray General Hospital.

The injured were identified as Edgardo Padua, 17; Gena Barcial, 33, Juvilyn Alvarez, 16; Angelita Dizon, 45, Julia Aspe; 30, Alejandro Cruz, 36, Angelito Cruz, 30; and Wiwi Lorenzo, 30.

The victims suffered burns and were brought to different hospitals for treatment.

Initial investigation showed that the victims were reportedly making skyrockets when the accident occurred.

Villanueva said the blast was believed to have been triggered by the cutting of fuse (mitsa) that caused a spark and ignited a stockpile of pyrotechnics products stored inside a warehouse where firecrackers are also being illegally manufactured. - pna
