Some Dumagats tribesmen are now reportedly starving due to a strange fishkill that is now affecting a portion of the giant reservoir of Angat Dam, which is nestled at mountains of Eastern Bulacan.
This developed as Bulacan Vice Governor Wilhelmino Sy Alvarado requested the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Luzon to immediately conduct an investigation on the incident.
"Nakakaawa naman ang mga Dumagat dito, magugutom silang lalo na kapag di napigil ang fihskill at di natuklasan ang sanhi," the vice governor said.
Aside from gathering rattan and other forest products, Dumagat tribesmen living in different settlements within the Angat Watershed area are dependent on fishing at the dam's reservoir, where they usually catch giant tilapia and kanduli.
"Lubha nang naapektuhan ang mga kapatid nating Dumagat. Nagugutom na sila dahil halos isang buwan na silang walang mahuling isda dahil sa fishkill, at ang ikinatatakot pa nila ay baka chemical ang dahilan ang sanhi nito," said Bro.
