CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan -- Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Friday said the agency is fulfilling its goals and mandate to uplift the welfare of Filipino workers as set forth by the Duterte administration.
Bello issued the statement during the 84th anniversary celebration of DOLE at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium here on Friday afternoon.
President Rodrigo Duterte led the labor department’s founding anniversary celebration and was warmly welcomed by Bulakenyos headed by Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, Vice Governor Daniel Fernando and City Mayor Christian Natividad.
“As we set sail to another year, we remain steadfast in moving the nation forward by fulfilling our mandate as envisioned by the President in bringing better opportunities to our people,” Bello said.
He said the DOLE’s milestones include winning the campaign against contractualization and other illegal contracting practices as well as gains in the intensified implementation of labor laws and standards.
He also mentioned giving priority action on occupational hazards, health and safety in workplaces.
With the theme, “Trabahong Marangal Para saLahat, Sabay-Sabay Natin Iangat,” the DOLE has lined up various activities for its anniversary celebration.
These include the job and business fair, commonly dubbed as Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK); release of livelihood assistance checks to selected, qualified beneficiaries and workers in the formal/ informal sector such as farmers, fisher folks, women and community workers, even company displaced workers.
Select groups of immediate family members of those killed-in-action/wounded-in-action during the Marawi crisis will also be provided with livelihood assistance. (PNA) DECEMBER 2017
