DILG 6 completes implementation of PHP25-M Salintubig projects in 7 LGUs

ILOILO CITY, July 2 (PNA) -- Twenty-six projects worth around PHP25 million funded under the 2012 Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat (Salintubig) regular program have been completed in seven local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas.

Data from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) disclosed that as of first semester of the year projects were completed in towns of Barbaza in Antique; Cuartero and Dumarao in Capiz; Alimodian, Cabatuan and Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and Pontevedra in Negros Occidental.

Iloilo has 16 completed projects to include the construction of 11 Level II Water supply System in Alimodian; expansion and rehabilitation of existing four Level 2 systems in Cabatuan and the rehabilitation and expansion of Tugas Level III Water System in Sta. Barbara.

Moreover, six completed projects were in Barbaza, Antique composed of the construction of six communal water supplies.

The two completed projects in Capiz are the construction of reinforced concrete elevated tank in Cuartero and construction of Level II water system in Dumarao.

In Negros Occidental, the rehabilitation of two water supply system projects has been completed.

DILG in 2012 has allotted PHP88 million for 52 projects to be implemented in selected municipalities in the region. Thirteen of the projects are ongoing while the rest are on their preparatory stage.

Salintubig, which is a tripartite program of the Department of Health (DOH, National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) and the DILG, seeks to cover 17 LGUs in the region for the 2012 funding.

Once completed, the program would be able to help increase by 50 percent the water service for the waterless population; reduce by 20 percent the incidence of water-borne and sanitation related diseases and improve access of the poor to sanitation services by 10 percent this 2015. (PNA)
