Davao mayor urges CAAP to fast track repair of Davao Airport
DAVAO CITY, Dec. 15 (PNA) -- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio urged the Civil Aviation Authority (CAAP) to fast track the repair of the Francisco Bangoy International Airport here, particularly on the cooling system and other facilities.
Mayor Duterte-Carpio already sent a team to check with CAAP in Manila on the status of repair works in view of many complaints from travelers of the Airport's cooling system and restrooms.
Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC) chief Lemuel Ortonio said that CAAP officials were committed to complete installation of package-type aircon units early next year.
Ortonio, who is a member of the team, said that CAAP would be installing a total of 37 units, of which 17 were already installed while the 20 units were for installation.
The cooling equipment at the Davao airport had not been functioning for quite awhile now because the needed spare parts were not available.
Ortonio said the parts had to be imported. He also noted that the cost is higher and purchases need to pass through a bidding.
With the bidding not yet happening, Ortonio said CAAP in the meantime installed a backup system like the package aircon type units. (PNA)
