The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) here confirmed on Thursday one dead and more than 3,000 families affected in this province due to flash floods caused by days of intermittent rains since New Year’s day.
The Council identified the first casualty of the calamity as Eserio Daniel, 47, of Barangay Bobongon in the municipality of Sto. Tomas.
PDRRMC Coordinator and Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) officer Arlene Semblante said Sto. Tomas town has so far suffered the brunt of the floods with damages to crops and livestocks amounting to P5 million and infrastructures worth P6.2 million.
Semblante said the town was already declared under state of calamity since January 3.
She said initial report as of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday also indicated that more than 3,000 families were affected by flooding in 33 low-lying barangays in five municipalities of the province.
Semblante said areas affected by the inundation include the City of Tagum and the municipalities of Asuncion, Kapalong, Sto. Tomas and Braulio E. Dujali. - pna
