The
First Asian Bird Fair will be held in Davao City on Sept. 24 and 26 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel in tandem with the 6th Philippine Bird Festival, the country’s premier avian conservation and eco-tourism event.
Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) information officer Tatit Quiblat said the three-day event is co-hosted by PEF and the Davao City government.
Quiblat said Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) president Michael Lu and about 200 guests from Taiwan, Singapore and other Asian countries as well as from United Kingdom, Australia and the United States will join the event.
She said the event will have its official launching on Friday at the official opening of this year’s Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival celebration at the Rizal Park.
The event will carry the theme “Nurture Nature, Save Our Future†with Mayor Sara Duterte to grace the launching.
The theme is the common initiative of the WBCP, the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand, the Chinese Wild Bird Federation, the Wild Bird Society of Taipei, the Malaysian Nature Society and the Nature Society of Singapore, she said.
Quiblat said the event will highlight the respective bird festivals of the participating countries, seek to enrich eco-tourism through birdwatching and promote the natural and cultural heritage of host cities.
It is a significant move to draw attention to pressing conservation issues, according to Alice Villa-Real, event organizer.
