Philippine National Police Chief Director General Jesus Verzosa vowed to make the Dagupan City Police station one of the models in the whole country.
He said this when he presided over the laying of the cornerstone and groundbreaking for the proposed P14-million Dagupan City Police Station on lots owned by the Dagupan City government where the Philippine National Red Cross and the Pangasinan Teachers' Memorial used to stand.
Also in the groundbreaking rites were Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, members of the city council, Supt. Mariano Luis Verzosa, chief of police, Police Provincial Director Percival Barba, Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Luizo Ticman and other police generals who accompanied Verzosa.
Verzosa, a native of Dasol town and who lived in Dagupan when he was two to three years old, said one of the projects of the PNP's Project Monitoring Office, wherein he was once an executive director, is to establish model police station projects nationwide.
Three model station projects are now existing, namely Marikina City Police Office, Aklan Police Provincial Office and the Marawi City Police Office.
"I hope that with the cooperation between the local police and the local government, we can establish and put up a model police station project here," Verzosa said.
He said the cooperation between the local police and the LGU must be very, very tight and paramount for the Dagupan Police Station to qualify itself as a model police station.
In being a model police station, Dagupan will receive additional facilities, supplies, assets like patrol cars, computers and others, adding that Dagupan will also be open to foreign donors, like the U.S., British and New Zealand embassies that are conducting special training for policemen of model police stations.
The model station project has two main components, the institutional development and citizen empowerment, he said. - PNA
