Tension is mounting in this resort island while police are on red alert after some members of the Boracay Boat Cooperative block the operation of Montenegro Fast Craft in nearby Caticlan Jetty Port since Thursday night.
Supt. Arnold Ardiente, Boracay police chief, said they are now in Cagban Jetty Port in Boracay to monitor the security while the Montenegro Fast Craft halted its operation because the conflict.
"At around 10 pm last night, a group of boatmen marched towards the Caticlan Jetty Port in nearby Malay, Aklan to express their protests against the operation of Montenegro Fast Craft. After their march in the sea using their respective boats, at least three boats were docked surrounding the fast craft and left it there to ensure it could not be able to operate and pass through them," Ardiente said.
For several weeks already, the Boracay boatmen have been protesting the operation of the Montenegro Fast Craft, claiming it is competing with their operation. - PNA
