ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—For repeatedly turning down her request for a date on Valentine's Day, an angry and frustrated wife stabbed her husband on Monday afternoon, the police said Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, acting city police director, said that before the day of hearts, Fatima Tebeng, 27, had told her husband that they would be out on a date on Monday.
Jamal Tebeng, 30, agreed to his wife's wish.
Ocampo said that on Monday, Fatima made several calls to Jamal, who was then at the office, and reminded him about their date.
He said the wife felt rejected when Jamal could not commit to the date, citing his work.
“The husband said he was busy and he couldn't leave his paper work,†De Ocampo said.
In an attempt to convince her husband for the last time, Fatima decided to personally see Jamal at his office, De Ocampo said.
“Their house is on Claveria Street, which is just a walking distance to the office along Pilar Street,†he said.
But to her dismay when she got there, Fatima was told her husband had already left.
De Ocampo said Fatima had suspected that her husband went out early to date another woman.
He said Jamal's co-workers told investigators she appeared restless and frustrated upon knowing her husband was not in the office.
“They called up Jamal on the phone and asked him to go back to the office,†De Ocampo said.
When the couple crossed path, Fatima stabbed her husband with a bladed weapon and wounded him on the chest.
“He was rushed to the nearby Children's Hospital and is already in stable condition,†De Ocampo said.
He said the couple settled their differences but did know whether or not their Valentine's date pushed through.
