Bacolod City mayor orders 100% deployment of traffic enforcers for holidays
BACOLOD CITY, Dec 19 (PNA) -- Mayor Evelio Leonardia ordered the 100 percent deployment of traffic enforcers during the Yuletide season to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in this city during the holidays.
Leonardia said Monday he has directed Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, chief of Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO)-Traffic Management Unit (TMU), to dispatch all 289 traffic enforcers.
They will be deployed full force for three days before Christmas, specifically December 22, 23, 24, and for three days before the New Year, or on December 29, 30, 31.
Acebuche said at present, the BTAO is implementing two shifts, deploying 144 traffic enforcers in the morning, and 145 in the afternoon.
Leonardia had earlier said the BTAO is looking for ways to improve the traffic situation, and also identifying possible alternative routes.
Last Saturday, the mayor ordered the suspension of the traffic rerouting plan for Christmas following complaints from commuters and motorists who experienced heavy traffic on Friday.
The BTAO was supposed to implement the traffic rerouting from December 16 to 31, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., affecting mainly the routes of public utility jeepneys.
Acebuche had earlier said that next year, the city government will hire 100 traffic enforcers more.
Currently, the BTAO is also implementing adjustments in various areas to further decongest the traffic volume.(PNA)
