Officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is hoping for a postponement of the August 2011 regional elections in the ARMM.
"We are yet to emerge from two elections in the ARMM," Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, ARMM executive secretary said.
The Commission on Elections has started preparations for this year's regional polls where the more than two million registered voters in ARMM's five component provinces will choose a regional governor, a vice governor and 25 members of the Regional Legislative Assembly.
While Sinarimbo refused to say categorically that acting Gov. Ansaruddin Adiong will run for office, he said, "we will cross the bridge when we get there."
Adiong, elected ARMM vice governor in 2008, became acting governor by operation of law when ARMM Governor Zaldy Ampatuan was incapacitated.
Ampatuan who was reelected in 2008, the first ARMM governor to do so, was implicated in the Maguindanao massacre, country's worst political violence. - pna
