Three soldiers were reportedly killed in an ambush by an undetermined numbers of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) around 4 a.m. Thursday in Barangay Magdum, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
In a sketchy report monitored over dxAB radio station here, two soldiers were killed on the spot while one was brought to a local hospital in Tagum City but was declared dead on arrival by local doctors.
It was reported that the fatalities were conducting a follow up census in the area in connection to the military’s peace and development program in the region when the rebels fired at them.
The ambush site is only about 50 to 70 meters away from the national highway and a heavily populated area.
Witnesses said the killers left the area casually towards a mountainous area and brought the M-16 armalites of the soldiers. (PNA)
