Residents of six barangays identified by the Revolutionary Proletariat Army- Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) as peace development areas have availed of some P25-million worth of anti-poverty sub-projects from the national government through the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).
The anti-poverty sub-projects were implemented under the Kalayaan Barangays Project (KBP) which were chosen based on a community needs assessment.
Each barangay received some P4.5 million worth of projects, according to Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias.
Just recently, the sub-projects ranging from farm-to-market road (FMR), water system, electricity, school buildings, day care centers and health centers were turned over to their respective recipient in a ceremony that was graced by the commanding officer of the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, Gen. Vicente Porto.
The recipient barangays included barangays Salngan, Isian Victoria, Isian Norte, Cabutongan, Lanag and Camando in Leon.
Banias said the municipality of Leon is one of the towns in Western Visayas that availed of the most number of projects from the KBP.
Simultaneous with the turnover ceremony, the office of Assistant Secretary Banias together with its partner government agencies also held its 38th medical mission benefiting some 600 patients.
Majority of the patients came from Isian Victoria and Isian Norte who availed of the free medical, dental and circumcision services.
Supporting the activity were the Philippine Army, Department of Health and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
The activity was held in the region’s far-flung areas to let the people feel that they are not neglected and that their government is really working for them. (PNA)
