A town councilor was gunned down Monday morning by three unidentified men wearing bonnet in Barangay Buntong, Salvador town, Lanao del Norte province, a sketchy report reaching the police regional command and tactical operation center here on Tuesday stated.
A flash report received at Police Regional Office 10 also identified the victim as Subair Tawan-tawan, 40, town councilor and chair of the council’s committee on health. He was on his way to attend a regular session when shot at close range.
Tawan-tawan, who was wearing a barong, was on board his single motorcycle when three armed men wearing bonnets flagged him down and shot him at close range, according to the report.
Responding Salvador police force found Tawan-tawan lying on the road with his face beyond recognition while his body was riddled with bullets. He was buried on the same day in Buntong based on Muslim rites.
Police investigating team found several empty shells of M16 Armalite rifle at the crime scene.
Motive of the killing and identities of the perpetrators are still not known as of press time.
It was gathered that the victim was a peace advocate, having initiated peace keeping efforts in the municipality of Salvador, a Christian dominated town. - PNA
