17,685 dogs immunized by Antique provincial vet office
SAN JOSE de BUENAVSITA, Antique, Dec. 14 (PNA) -- The Antique Provincial Veterinary (ProVet) Office reported Tuesday that 17,685 dogs were already immunized since January 1 to this date in the 18 towns of the province.
The number of dogs immunized is equivalent to 32.6 percent of their targeted 38,000 dogs supposed to be immunized this year.
Porferio P. Gallego, Jr., Supervising Agriculturist of ProVet said that the low turnout could be due to the lack of vaccines as well as vaccinators in the municipalities.
He then urged for the support of the local government units to the provincial dog ordinance so that it could be well implemented down to the barangay level.
He said that without the two human rabies that happened this year, Antique could have already been a rabies-free province in the past two years.
The two human deaths due to canine rabies were in the villages of Pis-anan in Sibalom and in Cadolonan, San Remigio.
As part of promoting responsible dog ownership, there will be a dog show to be held on December 20 at the EBJ Freedom Park. The dog show that is part of the Binirayan Festival activity will be participated in by local dog owners. Their pet dogs will be judged based on their breed and tricks. (PNA)
