A man accompanied by the housemaid of a supposed robbery victim made the mistake of reporting the incident to the local police only to end up being tagged as
rob suspects themselves.
It was a lesson they learned too late for Rommel Carmona y Mag-asa, 35, married and a resident of Kabangkalan, Sevilla town and Arlene Maduramente y Rafonel, 36, a resident of Tayong, Loay town.
Subsequent police investigation showed that although married, both were carrying a romantic liaison.
The same police report showed that the
supposed robbery victim was identified as Erna Tan, a cashier of the local branch of the Development Bank of the Phils. She resides along Hontanosas St., Tagbilaran City. The rob try took place morning of Thursday.
In her narration to responding policemen, the victim said she was inside her room when she heard some commotion outside. It was at this point that she got out of her room. Then two bonnet-wearing men, lunged into her and one of them tried to stab her. She was able to parry the knife blows but not without wounding her left hand. She was able to gain possession of the knife and then shouted for help.
But while the house owner was confronted by the suspects, the housemaid identified as Maduramente was already tied in her back in the kitchen of the house. A piece of cloth was also placed in her mouth by the suspects to prevent her from shouting.
Further police investigation indicated that no amount of cash was carted away by the robbers but only the cellphone and passbook of the house helper.
Then the robbery made a different twist when the sweethearts showed up in the police station to report the incident.
Police investigators sensing inconsistencies in the narration of the crime succeeded in having the male suspect admit to the robbery. Police also later found out that the house helper was an accessory to the crime after she admitted of having an affair with one of the suspects.
Local policemen are still looking for the other suspect who barged Thursday into the Tan residence.
